Thursday Thoughts

It's Okay...

to wake up in the morning, sit with my cup of coffee and realize I have nothing to do today.

to walk pass the laundry basket and decide I will do it tomorrow.

to sit on the deck in the sun with a book and glass of lemonade and just enjoy.

to take a nap in the afternoon.

to have leftovers for dinner rather than spend a lot of time preparing a big meal for the two of us.

to not care about what others think of the way we live as long as B and I are happy.

Thursday Thoughts

Our oldest son came home for a visit.  This may not sound like a big thing but he lives in Nevada far from our home in Michigan and we do not get to see him in person as much as we would like.  Our youngest son and dil came home as well to visit with their brother.  There we were, the five of us, sitting in the living room having one of those cool family conversations where everyone is trying to get their words in edgewise.  I watched and listened as my 2 sons talked to each other about cars, football, movies, photography and music.  In that moment,  my memory took me back to when they were much younger.  Like so many parents, I used to say to myself "I can't wait until they're more grown up".  I usually said this to myself when they were being exceptionally needy and stubborn at the same time.  This memory triggered another memory of a song that Trace Adkins used to sing.  I loved that song but it always made me sad because it made me realize that what the lyrics said was
very true.

My babies are 45 and 32 now and there are many times I wish I could go back and relive those days when they were "my little boys".

"You're Gonna Miss This"  -----Trace Adkins

She was staring out that window, of that SUV
Complaining, saying I can't wait to turn 18
She said I'll make my own money, and I'll make my own rules
Mamma put the car in park out there in front of the school
Then she kissed her head and said I was just like you

[Chorus]
 You're gonna miss this
 You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
 These Are Some Good Times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
 But you're gonna miss this

Before she knows it she's a brand new bride
In a one-bedroom apartment, and her daddy stops by
He tells her It's a nice place
She says It'll do for now
Starts talking about babies and buying a house
Daddy shakes his head and says Baby, just slow down

[Chorus]
 You're gonna miss this
 You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
 These Are Some Good Times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
 But you're gonna miss this

Five years later there's a plumber workin' on the water heater
 Dog's barkin', phone's ringin'
One kid's cryin', one kid's screamin'
 She keeps apologizin'
He says They don't bother me.
I've got 2 babies of my own.
 One's 36, one's 23.
Huh, it's hard to believe, but ...

[Chorus]
 You're gonna miss this
 You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
 These Are Some Good Times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
 But you're gonna miss this
 You're gonna miss this
 Yeah, you're gonna miss this

Thursday Thoughts

Tomorrow is my youngest son's 30th birthday.  A fact I cannot believe.  It seems not long ago he was a little boy whose main goal in life was to give his parents as many gray hairs as possible.  However, he has grown into a fine man with a good and loving heart and soon he will be a married man to a wonderful girl.

Do you name the wilderness animals that visit your house?  I do, which has always brought laughs, rolling eyes and suggestions that I need to get outside more from my family.  I have named 2 squirrels who visit my bird feeders Ralph and Alice Kramden from the honeymooners.  A group of 6 morning doves that come by every morning are Mr Magoo and his family.  The blue jays are Mr and Mrs Jabberwocky and I call all the deer Bambi, big or small.  Yes, they laugh at me but not too much lately.  You see, my soon to be daughter-in-law does the same thing.  And, don't tell them, but I have heard them use the same names when they are looking out the front window.  The men in my family are such tough guys.  Lol!

Last Christmas, my oldest son sent a fabric tunnel for our cat to play in.  He loves it although as you can see he doesn't fit in it very well.  Our Al is a rather large cat but he enjoys the parts that are in the tunnel and we enjoy watching him.

I cannot and will not watch news anymore unless it is about the local food market opening up, gardening tips, fun events, etc.  I refuse to watch coverage of the horrible, vicious things that humans do to other humans.  When I see those things I can only imagine how God must feel who created His children with the power of choice and watch what choices they make.

Now that the weather is getting a little better around here, B and I have been thinking about running away from home for a couple days.  Every now and then, we find it is very relaxing and rejuvenating to run away from home and do absolutely nothing.
