Tiny Victories for the Week of September 8th!

 

Washer delivered and installed.  Power went out about an hour before they got here and I was worried that it would still be out when they came but the power came back 15 minutes before they showed up.  Spent the day getting caught up on the laundry.  Amazing how one can miss a washing machine.

B went to the post office to mail some bills.  We do not put bills in the mailbox in front of the house, we go to the post office in town and mail them.  We only put cards and letters in the mailbox out front of the house.

B also stopped in to our township offices to pay the summer taxes.  It's simpler to drop them off instead of mailing them in and we also get the receipt right then.

The hydrangea bush has gone completely berserk this summer with many huge blooms.  However, the bush is in front of our bedroom window, so B and I trimmed some of the taller blooms off and brought them into the house in a vase.  We will prune the bush a bit more in the spring.

I repotted some plants that were out on the front deck so I could keep them in the house over the winter.  We also planted two large flowering plants from the deck to the garden in the back yard.  I hope they make it thru the winter but there's a chance they won't.

While working in the back yard, we found a wasp nest the size of a football on the underside of the back deck.  We couldn't understand how we could have missed it all summer since it was near the steps and we are out there every day.  Obviously we don't pay attention as well as we should.  B was able to remove it safely (no wasps nor B were harmed in the endeavor).

B told me that the dehumidifiers in the basement (3 of them) have been turned for the season.  B usually shuts them off this time of year as in winter they tend to freeze up.

Tiny Victories for the First Week of September

Tuesday - A new school year started today.  Although I am a retired teacher, I still have a first day of school tradition that I do each year.  I am usually up at 6am every morning (why I don't know). So at 6:15am I am sitting with my coffee enjoying the quiet. On the first day of school each year, I sit with my coffee in my pajamas and watch the school bus go up and down the road and raise my coffee cup with a smile, knowing I do not have to dress to rush out the door to school.  
B and I went out to look for a new washer.  The appliance store was having a Labor day sale.  We were able to get a new washer with a much larger drum (to wash blankets and comforters) at half price.  It will be delivered and installed on the 8th. They will also take old one away.

Wednesday - My youngest son and dil came over.  My dil gives our cat, Al, his monthly pedicure. I am too nervous to do it myself.  I worry I will clip his nails too close and hurt him.  Our son helped B move a large corner cupboard to basement.  It takes up too much room in the guest room and we don't use it much anymore.  We had a good visit with them telling us about their trip to see a concert for their 3rd anniversary and going to Hay Days in Minnesota this weekend.

Thursday - Since it will be next week for the new washer to be installed, we needed to go to the laundromat today.  The laundry had piled up since the washer died last Sunday.

Friday - It was a typical cool, rainy Fall day in the UP and a good day to stay inside, read a book and cuddle with my kitty, Al.  BBQ wings went in the crockpot for dinner.

Saturday - B and I decided to tackle the bathroom floor today now that the new toilet is installed. We were doing fine until we had to get around the vanity and toilet.  Took many measurements, tries and retries.  It's a good thing we had thought to get extra tiles what with all the mistakes we made.  Finally, we stood at the door to the bathroom and surveryed our finished work.  It looks so good especially since it has been almost 20 years since we did it the last time.  B announced that this is the last time we are doing this.  The kids can change it after we have gone to retirement heaven.  He's so funny.

Sunday - Day of rest definitely! Pork chops in the crockpot for dinner, old b&w movies on the tv, coffee and cuddling with my cat, Al.
