Last week of May - going into June

As I end May and begin in June, I just thought I would share how my last week of the month went.  It was definitely up and down.

First, we found that our front deck was sinking and pulling away from the house.  So we got a contractor to come look at it.  What he told us was not good news.  It seemed when the deck was built, it was not attached to the house properly.  The sill and hangers were all rotted and he would need to replace them as well as removing some deck boards and house siding.  All I heard was dollar signs going up everywhere.  We got another contractor to come in and look and it turned out the first one was the better both in work and cost.  Since we are always using the deck in the warm weather, this was a project we would have to bite the bullet on and do.  The good news was that within a week, the first contractor and his crew got all the work done and it is wonderful.  We could not be happier with the job he did.  The expense wasn't as high as we thought and we are very pleased to have our deck back.

B has been having problems with his high blood pressure for the past month.  He has been taking new medication for it and we had to get a home blood pressure monitor to take weekly readings for the doctor.  We are hoping to see improvement on his June doctor visit.

B had his second cataract surgery on the right eye.  He got the left done about 3 years ago.  Everything went well.  Now it is just a matter of eye drops 3-4 times a day for the next 2 weeks.  Since he is the driver in the family, it was important to get his done first.  I am supposed to have it done but I am in no hurry.

We finished spring cleaning by carpet cleaning the living room and dining room carpet.  It didn't take long but it really needed it.  I am very pleased with the results.

We made our annual visit to the cemeteries to lay flowers on B's parents graves in the Catholic cemetery and my folks in the Non-Catholic one.  I also put a flag on my dad's as he was a veteran of WW2.

We visited the local greenhouse (which is one of my favorite places). We got some lovely hanging plants, 2 plant hangers for hanging plants on either side of the garage door and I have been looking for a crab apple and/or red bud tree for the back yard but no luck so far.  We are going out again this coming week to see if we can find one in other greenhouses.

We did our monthly grocery shopping.  We mostly shop for items to replenish the pantry and freezer.  We try very hard to eat what we have in the house so we don't have to spend too much at the store.  We also visit a number of farm markets to pick up fresh vegetables, fruits and some dairy products.

And of course, the happiest news for the last week of May was 34 Guilty verdicts!!  Happy Day!!

We also had a cute visitor on the deck as well as the lovely scent of the lilac bush in full bloom.

  1. The deck looks so nice! I'm glad they were able to do it quickly and that the price was better than expected. Wonderful news.
Glad the surgery is done too. Now for good healing!

  2. Your deck is beautiful and having such a spot to enjoy is definitely necessary.

Yep the guilty verdict was very happy news, though Harvey had thought the snake would be able to slither away.

    God bless.
