We Need A Little Christmas!

Haul out the holly
Put up the tree before my spirit falls again
Fill up the stocking
I may be rushing things, but deck the halls again now

For we need a little Christmas
Right this very minute
Candles in the window
Carols at the spinet
Yes, we need a little Christmas
Right this very minute
Hasn't snowed a single flurry, but Santa dear we're in a hurry

Climb down the chimney
Turn on the brightest string of lights I've ever seen
Slice up the fruit cake
It's time we've hung some tinsel on the evergreen bough

For I've grown a little leaner
Grown a little colder
Grown a little sadder
Grown a little older
And I need a little angel
Sitting on my shoulder
Need a little Christmas now

For we need a little music
Need a little laughter
Need a little singing, ringing through the rafter
And we need a little snappy
Happy ever after
Need a little Christmas now

  1. I think that with what the year has been, we can celebrate little Christmases each day while waiting for the big day. We can live the Advent Calendar each day and I believe it will help sweeten the days a little more.

This Advent for me has been all about Go Out and Get It. Go and get that joy. Go and find hope. Go and give something to someone. Go and make the sun come out (if it doesn't). The waiting part of Advent has all been in the Go Out and Do Something in expectation of Jesus' coming. It's been all these little things - seeking soft sunshine on the back of your neck, cutting the last flowers of the season for the water jars, digging out the first tiny Christmas tree we bought ourselves, praying for snow for a friend - simply because she'd love it.

On the surface, my Advent doesn't look very different from years past. But it is. I am more deliberate this year, not quite sitting around waiting for joy to find me. At the same time, I'm not packing-to-choking my days as before.

So, even if there are times when greyness touches my spirit, I will opt to take sunshine to someone else. Because we all need Christmas right now!
